Scrapsland

In this page I will collect the different "scrappy" projects that I need to do to use all the leftovers of my main projects. They may give some ideas about how to use scraps of different shapes/sizes :)

The first thing that I need to say is that I bought the book "Small Pieces, Spectacular Quilts" (by Mary Elizabeth Kinch and Biz Storms) and I am trying out some of those project (not exactly the whole big quilts, but small square samples of the different techniques). I am planning to get to a point where I have enough pieces to put together a "Scrappy Sampler Quilt" with different techniques.

If you want to see my progress, stay tuned (and any advice is always welcome :) ).

It is kind of hard because you never know which kind of shapes you ending up working with. I try to go in a sort of circular way from a micro scrap to a bigger piece of scrap, putting some bigger scraps to align things and make it more stable.
I like this block because I can use also super-odd shapes and very tiny pieces.

It is a very easy block that can be used both (as I did) with thousand of different colors (scrappy effect) or with few colors (and create some specific shapes/patterns). With the chain piecing techniques explained in the book it is very quick to build it. However I gave two stars as difficulty because since I didn't use big pieces of fabric to start with, the cutting process was pretty time consuming. However I really like the final result!

It is a quite challenging block because of the four curvy arches + the fact that is an applique on the black background (both techniques that I never tried before) :)
The original version was a complete "seed" shape, but I folded the lower part because I plan to use this block in a specific design that I have in my mind and that requires a flat base :)

Super easy! And the final result is quite nice, IMHO :) I followed the technique in the video in my old post. The only thing I would change, next time, is to use "plain" organza and not one with shiny silver snowflakes because they "distract" the attention from the colors in the background.
