Are you looking for a pattern? Just type the name of the character and let Google find it for you ;)

MickeyM, DonalD, Alice

Many of my patterns are not reachable any more because Dropbox made my public folder private. :( :( :(
I will move the patterns to Google Drive and they will be soon available again.
Sorry for the issue, it is outside my control.
If in a hurry to get a pattern, please email me at tweloq [at] gmail [dot] com and I will try to send you the PDF via email.

WARNINGS, disclaimers and general comments:
Let me list all the possible problems/issues that you may have with my patterns... I want to motivate my choice so you understand where I stand :) but I am always open to change my mind and my patterns to help people that are not comfortable with the way I do things ;)

1. ALL the patterns are UNTESTED... I will test them all eventually, because I want those quilts for myself :) but I cannot guarantee there won't be mistake or changes along the way... if you are uncomfortable with that, just wait for the official release of the block;

2. I have no schedule for when the blocks will be pieced/corrected/released... it's going to be an on-going project that will go on until it's done ;)

3. also the embroidery blocks/text are untested. Which means that I may need to change the font of the quotes if I don't like how they look when I stitch them... you may try one and see if it works for you. If not, just let me know, I can change them quite easily

4. most of the blocks are composed of many pieces and small pieces... that's just because I care more about the final detailed design than the amount of work/time that it takes to put it together :) many small pieces does NOT mean that they are difficult! quite the opposite for me... many pieces are composed of a couple of seams... they are just many because of the way they have to get together... and if I (a less than one-year old sewing person, that before that didn't even know what a quilt is) tell you that you can do it, you can trust me :)

5. many pieces for each block means that it may take some time to put each block together... but that's not a problem for me... because quilting is not a speed sport, at least not for me ;) I am not a big fan of assembly line, chain piecing, and similar things... I know they help to get quilt done fast... but I prefer to do it little by little and take my time for each block... this means that I may not be able to meet "Christmas deadlines" but that's ok for me ;)

6. don't ask me about fabric requirements... I have no idea :) I can just tell you that most of the blocks are 10'' finished square blocks (except few that have different measures, and are written in each pattern) or 12'' high rectangles. In Alice's quilt, each block has a 3'' finished border (where I embroider the quote) which you may not want. Topolino's quilt has sashing around the blocks that allow them to align and form rows. I have no measures for those, I will add borders as it fits along the way :).
So I can just tell you that the rough size of the finished quilts will be 60''x85'' (with all the borders I want to put), but any specific fabric calculation is up to you. I never do those calculations: I work with what I have in my stash and when I need a specific color I go shopping for that :)

Alice in Wonderland

Inspiration and history of the designs
I always like anything that has to do with Alice in Wonderland. So I wanted to include many different things in the quilt to reflect that. So I included references to:
1. the original book from Lewis Carroll (all quotes + blocks 7 and 8 inspired from the original illustrations by John Tenniel)
2. the 1951 Disney movie (most of the blocks)
3.Tim Burton's movie (blocks 1 and 9)
4. Gwen Stefani's Alice inspired video (block 6)
5. the gothic videogame American McGee's Alice (viewing discretion is advised, extra bonus block)

Construction
Each block is a 10'' square (finished, 10.5'' unfinished) surrounded by a 3'' (finished, 3.5'' unfinished) sashing.
The sashing contains quotes from the book. The quotes goes around one single square starting from the open end of the clover. Few blocks have quotes that span across multiple squares... just follow the sentence as it turn around the different angles :)

Technical information about the patterns
Since it's a Test-A-Long, I just saved the PDF straight out of Quilt Assistant with any further editing.
I generated two versions: with and without color indicators. I usually like to work with color indicators in order not to get confused, but on small pieces those colored squares can cover the actual pieces! So if you prefer to work with the plain one, you have the file do be able to do that.
Since I didn't do any editing in the files, I didn't add embroidery details either.
I included in the pattern the image that the block is supposed to reproduce, so you can add the embroidery details using that as reference.
The words in the quotes are arranged so that they can fit on a page or two. To transfer them on the fabric, refer to the picture showing how the different words are aligned around the block.

Topolino
Inspiration and history of the designs
Topolino is an italian comic book that I used to read every week since I was 6. Even if Topolino means "Mickey Mouse" the comic book contains stories both from Mickey Mouse's friends (Minnie, Goofy, Pluto) and all Duck Tales characters (Donald Duck, Daisy, Scrooge and all the others). Since this is a quilt connected to my childhood, I have to call all the characters with the names I know them for (i.e. the italian one) :) however I also put the english name for reference :)
The idea of the full quilt is to try to reproduce set of blocks that form a comic strip. This is why I choose blocks in which each character is doing something. This makes the blocks more complex than simple "portraits" block, but complex does not mean difficult ;) complex just means that they are composed of many pieces, so they may require some time to be put together, but I think that that's worthy.

Construction
Each block is a 12'' height (finished, 12.5'' unfinished) with variable width. Each block has a 1 inch black sashing to achieve the look of a comic strip. The rest of background sashing does not have specific measures, it will be added on the sides of the blocks to make them align in a nice way in the final layout :)

  2. Woo! Finally getting around to starting my first block. It's just that busy time of year! If we do see things that could be changed (e.g. an extraneous seam), would you like us to let you know, and if so, how?

    1. I replied to you by email, but the answer may be useful for others too, so I post it here too :)
If you see some errors or for any comment, just send me an email to my email address (it should be in every pattern).
If my answer may be useful for others too or if I need to update my pattern because of that, I will write a post about it to let everybody know.
I cannot wait to see some of those blocks come alive in fabric ;)

  7. Just found your blog. It is wonderful! I am new to blogging and really need to do more. I need to learn about it. What program do you use to design your patterns? love your site! Thanks

    1. Thanks for stopping by!! To design my patterns I use QuiltAssistant: it is a free program that allows to create paper piecing patterns (but only for personal uses, you cannot sell the patterns you create with this program). Other people use EQ (Electric Quilt) but it's a pretty expensive software (for me at least) and since quilting is not my business I really don't want to pay for a software if there is a free alternative ;) if you have any other question, you can email me directly (I couldn't get in touch with you because you are a no-reply blogger). My email is tweloq(at)gmail(dot)com.

  8. Just found you (thank you pinterest!) and have fallen in love with your work! I can't wait to get started on some of your blocks. We have so many favorites it's hard to decide which one to start with! I for sure will be following you from now on! It's been forever since I was on my own blog, but might have to start up again--if no other reason to post the results of making these (if I ever decide where to start!). Thank you for your talent and love of many of the same characters that are favorites in my family!

    1. Hard or simple really depends on you!
I started sewing 2 years ago (never touched the sewing machine before) and I started with paper piecing patterns that many people said they were "hard", but I didn't think so! :)
They have many pieces, yes... they may take more time than traditional "half square triangles patterns", yes... are they hard? well, they have only straight sewing lines so they cannot be that hard ;) hope you give at least one block a try! you can always stop half way and since they are small you are not going to waste that much fabric! ;)
